Somalia: No more weapons we need, judiciary overhaul should be prioritized

bulletsThe request from the Federal Republic of Somalia Government on lifting arms embargo by the United Nations Security Council reminds SOMESHA what had happened in the year of 1992 in Somalia with the dark clouds of the worst remembered in the modern history of the universe had shaped and precipitated over almost every region, city, town, village and even remote rural settlements of Somalia. everybody took the gun either to attack or to defend and then the whole country has collapsed dramatically to ruins, to a level that no one thought could be as bad as it had turned into.

The government collapsed as President Mohamed Siyad Barre, a military general who ruled the country nearly two decades was chased out of the city by armed tribal militiamen. a total destruction, anarchy, social disintegration, economic degrading and all sorts of unprecedented events started, disappearance of social infrastructure including all public, governmental or private institutions followed, lawlessness, looting, killing, raping, shelling civilian populated areas had become some of the daily events in every location in Somalia.

The Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) is worried the daily environmental crisis in Somalia streets particularly for those caused by explosions from the old used or not used weapons, pieces of heavy mortars and grenades in soil-nature across Somalia in which caused the death of many people including women and children and animals.

However, in 2012 and beginning of 2013, Somalia completed its political transition with the election of a new federal parliament and speaker, the national constituent assembly’s adoption of a provisional constitution, the election of a new president and the naming of a new prime minister and cabinet.

In Somalia, there are a lot of corruptions within the judiciary and security institutions by horrified arresting of youth generation and sentencing them after bogus allegations from the security sector and then releasing by taking bribes. There are also cases on killers released at the appeals courts by taking bribes with motivated egotistical goals.

In addition to that, there are still independent armed militia’s in some regions also there is no properly formed away forward relationship among the newly elected federal government and regional states.

“Its public, the current Somalia security and judiciary institutions are not dynamic and are not working similar at our Neighboring countries and are in autocracy fashioned system” said Mr. Daud Abdi Daud SOMESHA Secretary General

“Our judiciary and security institutions are in need of urgent training to teach them how civilian government deals with its population due to they are working that we are still in a military rule of law system” Mr. Daud added

In the wake of all  these above mentioned conditions Somalia people needs educated and provisional determined leaders who can address, fill and repair  all these issues and able to responding their moral obligation regarding the miserable conditions they faced.

To improve civil society participation rights, the Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) is calling environmental friendly peace and sustainability decision and concerns what is next if the United Nations Security Council lift Somalia’s army embargo.
