SOMESHA Welcomes the World Wild life Day celebration

The Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) welcomes the United Nations General Assembly decision to proclaim 3 March as World Wildlife Day and thrilled to celebrate and circulate within the Somali media fraternity.

March 3, 2014 was the first day to celebrate and SOMESHA will organize a various events the next celebration of 2015 in order to make sure Somalia’s wildlife status and implement the request from the Collaborative Partnership on Sustainable Wildlife Management On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, the Collaborative Partnership on Sustainable Wildlife Management calls on all governments, parties to multilateral environmental agreements, donor agencies, including development banks, private and corporate donors, and business consortia, other relevant international bodies and organizations, indigenous and local community organizations and civil society, to make concerted and coordinated long-term efforts to support actions that promote innovate initiatives that conserve wildlife, improve the health and well-being of humans and combat illegal activities related to wildlife.

Over the last decade, Africa has witnessed demographic expansion resulting in encroachments into wildlife habitat, and increased cases of Human-wildlife conflicts (HWC), threatening both human and wildlife populations. However SOMESHA calls Somalia authorities to act the national wildlife habitat and step up the fight against illegal wildlife trade.
