The Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) is non-profit and non-governmental association, which is an umbrella body of professionals from many different families with different districts and it is the third labour union representing over 30 journalists nationwide. It’s the second organization that brings together the largest number of journalists in Somalia and it became recognized body within the media structure that operates in Somalia. SOMESHA members are specialized to expand and improve media coverage of key nation issues, including Climate change, the Environment, Agriculture, Science, Public health, Migration and Civil insecurity.
The members of SOMESHA are professionals whose mission is to tell the world about the substantial challenges of environmental concerns in the country which is far less studied. And they are the current journalists and media professionals including reporters, editors, webmasters and producers working for all media outlets in the country.
We are happy to acknowledge that Omar Faruk Osman Nur who heads the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) was re-elected again to be the Secretary General of the Eastern African Journalists Association (EAJA) in Bujumbura, Burindi on November 8-9, 2014.
The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) is a progressive union interested in serving and defending all the rights and welfare of Somali journalists and is a member of the International Union of Journalists (IFJ), Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and Eastern Africa Journalists Association (EAJA) as well as a partner with the Reporters without Borders (RSF).
Starting from the way the state of Somalia press freedom situation and independence is currently SOMESHA be aware of that Mr. Omar Faruk Osman Nur is the sole respected and nationally as well as internationally recognized as the single entitled person of NUSOJ as Secretary General.
We need to bring to this attention of our partners and the international community this emergence and existence concern, as we also need to call Somalia Federal Government Authorities to stop the hate campaign against respected figures in Somali journalists associations and the press freedom exclusively.
SOMESHA, Secretary General
